Poetry
Tony Chiarella is the poet and artist behind Professor Phlogiston’s Alchemical Manual for Clever New Yorkers (with schematics) and The Archaelogy of Retribution. He is also an English teacher, actor, designer, and singer/songwriter performing in any local dive bar, bookstore, theater, or school that will have him.
Experimentation
I like to experiment with form and, inspired by the oulipians, construct the labyrinth from which I plan to escape. One of the forms that I developed is where I use the same words in different parts of the poem to tell different stories. The poems "Engineered to move the human spirit" and "Ma and her sisters (a triptych)" are examples of this "broken mirror" technique.
"Just finished The Archaeology of Retribution and very much enjoyed it! I don't know anyone else who can sound like such a badass, yet be so erudite at the same time." - Elaine Equi
